About me
A developer with founder DNA
I'm Niklas Homann, a freelance senior Flutter developer based in Hamburg, Germany. For over five years I have been building mobile apps with Flutter – from prototypes and MVPs to complex platforms with hundreds of thousands of users, often in a technical leadership role.
Before going freelance, I co-founded Beautinda and, as CTO, built a SaaS platform from the first line of code to profitability – including hiring and leading the engineering team. That founder experience shapes how I work today: I think in user value and economics, not feature lists.
Quality is not an add-on for me: clean architecture, automated tests and CI/CD pipelines are part of every project – so your app stays maintainable, stable and extensible long after launch.

Frequently asked questions
Why Flutter instead of native development with Swift or Kotlin?
With Flutter, one shared codebase powers your app on iOS, Android, web and desktop. That roughly halves development and maintenance effort without compromising performance or user experience. Where native interfaces are needed (MDM, Bluetooth, platform APIs), I integrate them via platform channels. For the vast majority of business apps, Flutter is the most economical choice today.
Do you work remotely or on-site?
I work remotely from Hamburg for clients across Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the EU. For kickoffs, workshops or key meetings I'm happy to come on-site; hybrid setups have worked very well in my projects.
How fast can an MVP go live?
It depends on scope. As a reference: I took the Finanzfluss Copilot app from zero to the app stores in four months, including CI/CD pipeline and test strategy. For a robust MVP, three to six months is realistic depending on feature scope.
Do you take over existing apps?
Yes. I take over existing Flutter apps as well as native or hybrid apps that should be migrated to Flutter. We start with a code audit, followed by step-by-step refactoring or migration without putting feature work on hold.
Do you also build backends and web apps?
Yes, I work full-stack: backends with TypeScript (NestJS, Node.js) or Python (FastAPI, Flask), Firebase and Google Cloud, plus web frontends with Flutter Web or React/Next.js. My apps come with the APIs they need.
What does it cost and how do you bill?
I work on an hourly or daily rate and bill monthly based on actual effort – transparent, with no hidden costs. I quote the specific rate in our intro call, depending on scope, duration and role. For clearly scoped work such as a code audit, a fixed price is possible by arrangement.
What does the contractual setup look like?
I'm an independent software engineer working under a service or project contract – directly with you or through your preferred intermediary. I work free of instructions, with my own equipment, for several clients and with a clearly defined scope, which keeps the engagement clean under German contractor-compliance rules. Non-disclosure agreements are a matter of course.
What is your current availability?
You can see my current status at the top of this page. Typical engagements run three to twelve months at high capacity; after alignment, a start is usually possible within a few weeks. During ongoing projects I'm happy to take requests for the next open slot.
Do you support the app after launch?
Yes. After the release I can continue to look after the app: maintenance, updates for new iOS and Android versions, Flutter upgrades, monitoring and further development – with a fixed monthly allocation or on demand. Alternatively, I hand the app over to your in-house team, cleanly documented and with onboarding.
